Stinchcombe Village Hall Lottery Fundraising

Stroud District Council Lucky Severn Lottery

Stinchcombe Village Hall is raising money to support ongoing projects and general upkeep in these difficult and challenging times. We have joined the Stroud District Council Lucky Severn Lottery.

Lucky Severn Lottery was created in 2021 by Stroud District Council. It is set up to support community projects in the local area. Lucky Severn Lottery operates on the principle of raising money within the community for the community. To empower local good causes to raise money in a fun and effective way. In a time of shrinking budgets and increased community need, Lucky Severn Lottery enables people to support the causes they care most about, helping good causes to connect with their supporters.

How to purchase tickets

  • For the Lottery simply follow the link Lucky Severn Lottery.
  • Select “play the lottery”
  • Search for “Stinchcombe Village Hall”
  • Buy tickets

How it works

  • Tickets cost £1 per ticket
  • 50p in every pound raised goes directly to the village hall.
  • 10p in every pound goes to local good causes
  • Every ticket has a 1 in 50 chance of winning every week
  • Odds are better than the National Lottery and Health Lottery
  • Once you have an account at Lucky Severn Lottery you can buy further tickets supporting other local causes or charities or check up on your winnings. All online.

Currently at the Hall

We have a few small projects to complete, such as CCTV, lower car park security barriers and lighting, plus the everyday costs associated in running and maintaining this much-loved village asset, such as repairing and decorating the stage area.

  1. Following on from our very successful Christmas fare, that saw the new overflow car park almost full for most of the day, we are looking to install the new low-level lighting and CCTV ahead of what we hope to be a busy 2021.
  2. For additional security we are also looking to ensure the overflow is more secure by installing two new barriers when not in use.
  3. In the Spring, when lockdown permits, we are looking to repair, clean and decorate the stage area.

Anyone interested in helping regarding the painting or more information on the Lottery, please contact David by phone on 07539 286978 or by email

David.

Volunteers at the Hall

Village Hall update Dec 2020

A difficult year

2020 has been a very difficult time for many people with the Covid Pandemic and lockdowns. The Village Hall was not exempt from these effects. There was a 5 month period of no income at all to cover the running costs and maintenance.

However with the benefit of several Grants, some generous donations of Machinery and fuel, we managed to create not only a much larger and much needed overflow Car Park but also a secure Amenity area. These will compliment the Hall for social events during next years Summer months. There are also further enhancements planned for next year.

Tree planting and weeding was carried out by many volunteers. Volunteers are always welcome and encouraged for future projects, to help achieve some of the larger labour intensive jobs. The Committee too all have different strengths and as a Team drive projects forward.

The Committee hope that at some point next year after we are able to get back to ‘normal’, the whole Village will be able to again use the Hall by supporting events or activities. We are so fortunate thanks to previous Committees and volunteers to have without doubt the best Community Hall in the area.

Projects Completed this year include:

Village Hall Fayre

Christmas Fayre 2020

Perseverance and Persistence Pays

It just shows that persistence does pay! – Stinchcombe had the most successful and enjoyable Crafts Fayre on 5th December.  Even though we had to change the date and replace some of the stallholders, the sun shone and people really enjoyed a chance to do some Christmas shopping and to meet up with friends and neighbours at our Covid-safe Village Hall

Thanks to all who came, and all who helped with the preparations, clearance and supporting me in carrying it through in such a difficult year.

Looking forward to next year

Next year will even bigger and better with even more stalls planned – and, watch this space for further events at the Village Hall.

The results of the Quiz

A message from the Village Hall Committee

On behalf of the Village Hall Committee, I would like to thank everyone who came to the Quiz night on Friday 23rd October. It was a great success and seemingly enjoyed by all. The evening was extremely well organised and attended. Almost as if back to ‘normal times’.

It was a great effort by Nola Bradley and those who organised the event. Making sure to observe all Government COVID-19 guidelines. Also, our thanks must go to Janet and Paul Bartlett as quizmasters who, as always, did a sterling job.

Funds Raised

The funds raised will go towards the running and maintenance of the Hall. This is most welcome at this time, due to almost no income for 5 months and currently a reduced ongoing income. It was nice to see mainly Stinchcombe Villagers supporting this local event.

Crafts Fayre

Hopefully Stinchcombe Villagers will be out again on Saturday the 14th November when we will be holding our Annual Crafts Fayre from 10am until 3pm. This year with several new and different stalls and with some stalls under canvas. Hopefully the event will have a real Christmas feel to it.

Village Hall Autumn Update

A letter from the Village Hall Committee

Dear Stinchcombe Village Resident,

On behalf of the Village Hall Committee, it is a great pleasure to provide you with an update on the excellent progress which has been made regarding the extension of the Village Hall Car Park. Despite the challenges which have been faced this year with the coronavirus pandemic, the initiative to extend the existing car park has continued thanks particularly to the energetic and effective leadership provided by Charlie Oakhill.

In the early spring the purchase of an additional area of land adjoining the Village Hall went ahead with the area subsequently levelled and prepared for later surfacing. This was followed by a tree and hedge planting initiative in April, which was effectively supported by many volunteers from the village who assisted during the period of lockdown. Grassing and fencing the area directly behind the Village Hall has added another attractive dimension to the Village Hall for activities and entertainment when life return to a more normal pattern.

In the meantime, we look forward to the next stage of the development with the start of the tarmac work at the end of this week. Work will commence on Friday 2nd October and should be completed by Wednesday 7th October. In order to minimize the disruption caused, it is anticipated that the working hours will be a little longer than usual with the contractor making an early start at 7.30 am on 2 days. During the pandemic greater flexibility has been allowed with working hours and we are keen to see this work completed without unnecessary inconvenience.

We look forward to the completion of this new car park facility, which there is no doubt will be of considerable benefit to wider Stinchcombe community.

Thank you for your continued support and interest.

Kind regards

Your Village Hall Committee

Village Hall Car Park Weeding

This coming Sunday morning the 19th at 10-00am we will be having 1 more working party to finish off weeding the newly planted trees at the Village Hall Car Park. A few more volunteers would be a great help and I envisage about 1 hour’s work to finish off. Just turn up with a pair of Gardening gloves and a large bucket would help.
