A cast iron wreath support with a durable Verdigris finish, designed by John Pinch, has been commissioned to mark the centenary of the 1918 Armistice. John’s sketch, to which the blacksmith is working, is shown here.
A circular bronze plaque with the wording “Lest We Forget 1918 – 2018” will be fixed to the support to sit at the centre of the wreath. The whole item will be securely installed within the gravel surround of the War Memorial, behind the fencing and in front of, but not obscuring, the existing bronze plaque bearing the names of the men who fought. The support will be in place for the wreath laying on Sunday 11th November.
The Parish Council has generously offered to pay half of the £420.00 total cost of the wreath support and plaque.
If individuals wish to make a contribution to mark this important and poignant occasion there will be an opportunity to do so at village events to take place over the Armistice weekend. The History Society will also make a contribution and cover any shortfall.
