Stroud District Local Plan Review – Emerging Strategy Consultation

Although the Coffee Morning was a more appealing prospect, I attended the public exhibition in Cam on 8th December.  It was full of mainly Cam people leaving their comments in a flurry of Post-it notes.   Perhaps not surprising, given that nearly 1,000 new houses are proposed there.

Stinchcombe does not feature specifically in the Emerging Strategy, but sizeable developments else where in the area will affect us too.  We share the same roads, public transport system, shops, health and leisure facilities etc.   It makes sense to find out what isbeing put forward.   The Emerging Strategy document can be accessed here: https://www.stroud.gov.uk/media/970670/emerging-strategy-paper_final_low-res_8-11-18.pdf

One proposal directly relevant to Stinchcombe refers to developments of up to 10 dwellings, outside existing settlement development limits, in the smallest settlements.  These would be approved  “in the interests of maintaining social sustainability” only where supported by the local community through a neighbourhood plan.  I have yet to find a succinct definition of social sustainability, but imagine it would include considerations such as affordability, suitability for people who are older and/or disabled and encouraging positive interactions within the community.

The consultation closes on 18 January so don’t leave it too long if you want to have your say.
