Recycling Service Update

Comments Off on Recycling Service Update

Since the start of the improved recycling service in July, there has been a significant increase in the amount of recyclable material collected. This in no small part is due to the commitment of residents in embracing the new collections. Before the start of the improved recycling service, as there was no kerbside collection provision for cardboard, refuse crews would collect this along with the black bag waste for landfill. Since the start of the new recycling service, refuse crews have been collecting cardboard for landfill from a small number of properties on the non-recycling week. To clarify, any cardboard presented by residents on the recycling week is being collected by crews for recycling.
As the District Council now provides a kerbside recycling service for cardboard, to maximise the positive environmental benefits that can be generated by the service, from w/c 29th October residents will only be able to present cardboard on their recycling week for collection through the kerbside recycling box.
From w/c 29th October if any resident presents cardboard on their non-recycling week, crews will leave the cardboard and place an explanatory note through the door of the property. The customer service centre will be aware of the change and be able to provide advice to residents.
