Meet at the Village Hall on The Street at 10.30 am on Sunday 25th March. Rubbish bags and litter pickers will be provided. Bring gloves. All ages welcome. No previous experience necessary!

This year we are again particularly targeting those areas which need a really good ‘deep clean’

One of the actions in the Stinchcombe Parish Plan 2008 was to set up an ‘Adopt a Verge’ scheme whereby in between the annual Spring Clean sessions residents would volunteer to look after verges near where they live. This has been running for over three years now and is more effective in some areas than others. ‘Adopt a Verge’ members are urged to keep up the good work in 2012.

Please note that residents who attend the Annual Spring Clean or take part in the ‘Adopt a Verge Scheme’ do so at their own risk. The Parish Council takes no responsibility for their involvement or participation.

Walkers in South Korea are a step closer to walking the Cotswold Way National Trail thanks to the launch of the Cotswolds – Korea Friendship Trail in the South Korean island of Jeju Olle.

Along part of the Jeju Olle long distance coastal walking route, walkers can now find the same waymarked wooden signposts that are used along the Cotswold Way. The launch of this part of the trail in South Korea follows a similar launch which took place at Stinchcombe Hill last year, where a specially marked trail promotes the links with South Korea, and marks the completion of this new friendship trail – one of the first friendship trails in the world.
Friendship trails are similar to twin towns, whereby trails in different countries team up in the name of partnership, mutual publicity and international alliance. Through the concept of the Cotswolds Korea Friendship Trail and others in the world, it is hoped that the idea will spread across the globe, promoting understanding and walking, whilst boosting tourism and local economy.

“This is a real opportunity to promote international friendship and cooperation. We are proud to be joining up with Jeju Olle, and hope this special relationship will benefit people, landscapes and conservation in both our countries,” said James Blockley, Cotswold Way National Trail Officer.

A downloadable route guide for the Cotswolds Korea Friendship Trail at Stinchcombe Hill is available here. Source: www.cotswoldsaonb.org.uk

Stinchcombe Parishioners are invited to an open meeting to learn more about Wildlife Management of Stinchcombe Hill through Environmental Stewardship. The speaker is Jenny Phelps from Gloucestershire FWAG (Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group). The Trustees have entered Stinchcombe Hill into a Higher Level Stewardship Agreement with Natural England to help manage the Hill as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. This includes the re-introduction of grazing of cattle on selected areas of the Hill and restoration of the Hill fort, together with increased educational access and support. Gloucestershire FWAG would very much welcome our involvement to make sure that this is successfully achieved for users of the Hill and would value highly Stinchcombe residents’ opinions on what is right for our Parish. Stinchcombe Hill is a valuable asset to the Parish especially as our Village Green is situated on the top of the Hill.

If Possible, Please do come along to find out more information on the scheme and to make sure our opinions are heard.

Witness Statement: The second time I have witnessed this in 3 years. Several orange lights across the hills towards Wotton Under Edge, looking from Stinchcombe Golf Course, which fade out and return. This time the clouds behind were backlit as if the moon was behind them. When the lights disappeared, the glowing cloud became dull and then returned to normal.
